Biographical / Historical Note
George Ladd (1852-1906) was one of the early discoverers of Bullfrog Mine in Rhyolite, Nevada. While not officially credited with the discovery of the mine, Ladd was involved with the mine from its early years and was a member of the firm Clark, Ladd and Benson of the Bullfrog Mine Company. George Ladd was a resident of Nevada and primarily worked in raising stock throughout Lovelock Valley until around 1900, when he became interested in mining and spent time in Tonopah and Goldfield, Nevada.
Bullfrog Mine was discovered in 1904 near Beatty, Nevada. The discovery of the mine was credited in helping end a thirty-year economic depression in Nevada. The towns of Bullfrog and Rhyolite were started within a few miles of each other by competing townsite companies, becoming leading towns in the district. The height of the boom lasted until 1906.
