Abstract
The History of Nursing in Southern Nevada Oral History Project Records (1965-2014) are comprised of material related to a volunteer project initiative at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Nursing to conduct oral history interviews with nurses who have practiced in Southern Nevada. The collection contains subject files related to the project, as well as audio, video, and transcript files for the interviews. The collection also includes general information on nursing in Southern Nevada such as research papers and documents from the Nevada Nurses Association.

The History of Nursing in Southern Nevada Oral History Project Records (1965-2014) are comprised of material related to a volunteer project initiative at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Nursing to conduct oral history interviews with nurses who have practiced in Southern Nevada. In addition, there are photographs, news clippings, event programs, and certificates from nurses in the region, many of whom were also interviewed. The collection also includes general information on nursing in Southern Nevada such as research papers and documents from the Nevada Nurses Association.

Biographical / Historical Note
In 2004 faculty members from the School of Nursing at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas began an initiative to preserve the history of nursing and nurses in Southern Nevada. The project was primarily led by faculty member Dr. Margaret Louis with assistance from Maureen Matteson-Kane, Patricia Van Betten, and other volunteers. Oral history interviews were conducted with nurses who have practiced in Southern Nevada. UNLV School of Nursing faculty members and former students were also interviewed.

Processing Note
Processing of the UNLV School of Nursing records was funded in part by the Zeta Kappa Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau.
Materials were processed by Karla Irwin in 2016 and in 2017. Analog audiovisual materials, including audiocassettes and digital videocassettes, were outsourced for digitization.
Transcriptions for oral history interviews without corresponding transcripts were transcribed and edited in UNLV Special Collections and Archives from July 2017 to June 2018. In 2022, Melise Leech updated the finding aid in ArchivesSpace.

Separated Materials
Source files, including use agreements and biographical questionnaires, were removed from files associated with oral history interviews due to the presence of personally identifiable information. Items were placed in a "History of Nursing in Southern Nevada" folder and moved to the oral history vertical filing cabinet.
