Biographical / Historical Note
Erni Cabat (1914-1994) was an artist and writer, known in Nevada primarily for his gouache paintings of casino interiors and patrons. He was educated at the New York Arts Students League, the Mechanics League, and the Cooper Union in the late 1920s. In the 1930s, he worked in advertising and for Time-Life magazine as an illustrator, and during World War II was contracted to the Army Air Corp, rendering Japanese bomb targets for US pilots. Moving to Arizona after the war, he continued working in advertising and marketing until turning full-time to painting in the mid-1960s. With his wife, the ceramic artist Rose Cabat, he founded Cabat Studios in Tucson, Arizona and continued to produce both art works and a series of illustrated children's books until his death in 1994.
