Biographical / Historical Note
The Association for Women in Science, Las Vegas Chapter was formed in 1991 by DeLyle Eastwood. The original AWIS was established in 1971 at a Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology. Since then the organization has been working to ensure women in science based fields are able to reach their full potential in their fields.
The Las Vegas chapter of AWIS worked with local women's organizations, such as Nevada EPSCoR Women in Science and Engineering, to help women in the Las Vegas area obtain access to funding, mentoring, and support in science based career fields. As of 2002, for unknown reasons the Las Vegas chapter of AWIS disbanded.
