Biographical / Historical Note
The Las Vegas Sands Incorporation was founded in 1989 by Sheldon Adelson and his partners after buying the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. One year later, the Sands Expo and Convention Center opened adjacent to the hotel. The Sands Hotel was demolished in 1996 to make room for the Venetian Las Vegas. In 2004, Las Vegas Sands Inc. became public and changed its name to Las Vegas Sands Corporation. Adelson opened the Sands Macao in Macau (SAR), China in 2004. From that point forward, the company extended its presence in Asia. In December of 2007, the Palazzo Las Vegas opened.
