Biographical / Historical Note

Castaways Hotel and Casino operated from 1963 to 1987 in Las Vegas, Nevada, with its casino closing and re-opening numerous times throughout its tenure. In the late 1960s, Howard Hughes purchased the property along with several others on the Strip, and in 1987 Steve Wynn bought it with the purpose of demolishing all existing structures to make way for the Mirage, which would open in 1989. Prior to the opening of Castaways, the property was the site of San Souci Hotel and Casino.
