Abstract
The Miriam "Mimi" Katz Papers are mainly comprised of materials documenting Katz's involvement with community organizations in Las Vegas, Nevada from the 1940s to 2015 (the bulk of the materials date from 2002 to 2014). A large portion of the collection consists of planning documents, correspondence, event programs, newsletters, meeting agendas, meeting minutes, photographs, and other records related to Katz's involvement in the Brandeis National Committee Las Vegas Chapter and the Temple Beth Sholom Women's League. The collection also includes similar types of materials that document Katz's work with other community groups such as the Jewish Community Center of Southern Nevada and the League of Women Voters, and her work on the political campaigns of Democratic state and federal politicians.

The personal papers within the collection include photographs and certificates of appreciation, and the history of the Las Vegas Jewish community is described in compositions by Jerome D. Countess and George Katz.

Biographical / Historical Note
Miriam "Mimi" Katz (1926-2015) was a convention sales and community relations representative and community activist in Las Vegas, Nevada. Born Miriam Goldberg on April 25, 1926 in Boston, Massachusetts, she married George Katz and moved to Las Vegas in 1957. She worked for Clark County School District briefly before leaving to raise her family. After her three daughters grew older, Katz worked in convention sales for the Las Vegas Hilton, Sands, and Sahara hotels. During the 1980s she handled community relations for the Jewish Federation of Las Vegas and worked with Edythe Katz-Yarchever to develop and manage the Federation's Holocaust education program, which later became the Sperling Kronberg Mack Holocaust Resource Center. Katz also volunteered many hours to numerous charitable, community, civic, educational, Jewish, and Democratic organizations and causes. Temple Beth Sholom, Easter Seals, Jewish War Veterans Auxiliary, Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, Brandeis National Committee Las Vegas Chapter, and Volunteers in Medicine are some of the organizations with which she was involved. She also worked on both of Bill Clinton's presidential campaigns and organized candidate nights at Temple Beth Sholom during elections. Mimi Katz passed away on April 11, 2015.
