Biographical / Historical Note

Joyce Mack was a community leader, volunteer, and philanthropist in Las Vegas, Nevada who supported UNLV since its founding. Born Joyce Rosenberg on August 17, 1925 in Los Angeles, California, she later attended the University of California, Los Angeles, where she met her husband Jerome D. "Jerry" Mack. The couple married in 1946 and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1947. Together, the Macks helped found the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and Joyce Mack continued to support and carry forward the family's philanthropic goals after Jerry Mack's passing in 1998. She joined the UNLV Foundation Board of Trustees in 1999, a position she held for 25 years. She financially supported the William S. Boyd School of Law, which established the school’s legal clinic, moot courtroom, and a law professorship. In 2008 she received the Silver State Award from the UNLV Alumni Association in recognition of her contributions to the university, and Boyd Law named her a Woman of Valor in 2021. She was actively involved with both Temple Beth Sholom and Congregation Ner Tamid. Joyce Mack passed away October 11, 2024 at age 99.
