    ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY, INC. Theta Theta Omega Chapter Chapter Meeting Minutes April 2, 2005
    The meeting was called to order by Basileus, Soror Billie Rayford at 11:02 a.m. at Holy Trinity A.M.E. Church. Soror Barbara Kirkland led the meditation.
    OFFICER REPORTS
    BASILEUS: Soror Billie welcomed everyone to the meeting. She announced that this was a joint meeting
    between Theta Theta Omega and Kappa Xi. Officers of Kappa Xi in attendance were Soror Ehraeda Rucker, Basileus; Soror Kathryn Anthony, Anit-Basileus; and Soror Genova Hooks, Ivy Leaf Reporter.
    Soro Billie gave kudos to the Emerald Ball Committee chaired by Soror Peggy Selma and Soror Keysa Rogers for their hardwork and the success of the ball. She announced the Scholarship Committee, chaired by Soror Celeste Hunter and assisted by Sorors Edna States, Peggy Selma, Jacqulyn Shropshire, and Billie Rayford selected the 2005 Theta Theta Omega scholarship recipients. The recipients are: Alisha Printup, Calisha Cooks, Kiana Fairman, Paris Harrell, and Kimberly Holford. Congratulations were extended to Sorors Barbara Powell, Keysa Rogers, and Lynette Boggs-McDonald for being Soros on the Move.
    GRAMMATEUS: Soror Tisha presented the minutes from the March meeting.
    Soror Tisha Johnson made a motion to accept the minutes with the corrections. Soror Verlia Davis-Hoggard seconded the motion. Motion passed.
    TAMIOUCHOS: Soror Tina Rimmey reported the following ending balances for the statement dates March 5-31, 2005: Operating Account , Fundraising Account = and Community Account = 'FTW-f8!.

    EPISTOLEUS: Soror Ethel Archibald presented the April and May event calendars, with a correction to the Regional Conference Meeting to be held on April 9. The graduation of Sorro Ithanya Rucker was announced. She announced Soror Barbara Powell’s new career in real estate sales for Century 21. An invitation from the Links was read to purchase a both in the Women’s Health Fair.
    HODEGOS: Soror Quin Rivers recognized and thanked this month’s hostesses: Sorors Denise Levi, Deneen
    Butler, Elsie Bryant, Winnie Pettis, and Natasha Williams. The April hostess for the Executive Board meeting will be Soror Edna States. Hostesses for the May meeting will be Sorors Lillian Gates, Thais Baccus, Maxine Randolph, Sami Randolph, and Tamara Trowell.
    Happy Birthday wishes were extended to Sorors Sandra Douglas Morgan, Clair Hart, Lillian Gates, Jeanne Richard Jones, Thais Baccus, Shirnice Villano, and Debra Toney. Happy Anniversary acknowledgements were extended to Soror Bertha Pendleton and Honey Do Oscar, Soror Betty Curtis and Honey Do Russell, and Soror Rose Igeleke and Honey Do Zebedee.
    Congratulations were extended to Soror Donnyss Rucker for being recognized at the UNLV Unity Fest Recognition and her completed certification as a children’s etiquette consultant.
    Get Well Wishes were extended to Soror Dorothy Johnson recovering from treatment for her severe back pain, Soror Tanya Flanagan for her grandmother Rosie Lee Flanagan, Soror Celeste Brown’s daughter Sarah, Soror Ethel Archibald and her parents, Soror Dorothy Earle and Honey Do Robert, Soror Barbara McCants-Hill, and Soror Flora Shafer’s granddaughter Megan..
    Sympathies were extended to Soror Gwen Bartlett Gates for the loss of her mother and Soror Patti Hester for the loss of her uncle..
    Welcome back was extended to Soror Elizabeth Sheffield, Soror Dorothy Hancock, and Soror Lavonne Lewis.
    IVY LEAF REPORTER: Soror Adrienne Hester requests sorors forward information to be reported in the Ivy Leaf. She also announced that sorors who have changes in careers can forward the information to her and she will have the announcement posted in the Business listings.
    GRADUATE ADVISOR: Soror Donnyss Rucker welcomed Kappa Xi to the meeting and displayed their trophies received for: 1 place spirit awrd, Delta Chi King’s Crown, and the 2nd Princess Award was presented to Soror Ehraeda Rucker. Kappa Xi Chapter is hosting a sisterly relations week April 1 -9, 2005. Events to be included that week are Open Mic Night, Joint TTO and Kappa Xi meeting, Church Service at Mountaintop Faith Ministeries, Education Component, Economic Empowerment Seminar, Health and Fitness Seminar, Cultural Potluck, and volunteering at the Soup Kitchen.
    STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
    PROGRAM: No report.
    OPERATIONS: Soror Edna Stated introduced her granddaughter Layla, she is an ice skater who has won local awards and a competition at Disneyland. Soror States advised she participated in the Chapter Operations Workshop conducted during the March Executive Board Meeting and consulted with Soror Maxine Randolph to develop an introduction kit with “little known ITO facts” for transferring sorors.
    MEMBERSHIP: Soror Maxine Randolph announced that she has the New Soror packets from the International Office for Sorors Maria Williams and Rose leleke. She distributed welcome packets to sorors who have transferred into the chapter.
    WAYS AND MEANS: Soror Peggy Selma thanked the members of her committee whose hard work and dedication helped to make the Emerald Ball a success. She announced that photos from the ball can be seen on the website: www.bp.photos.com/aka. Soror Peggy thanked the Jewels who lead their teams to a successful end. All of the teams raised at least The contributions of Soror Peggy and Soror Keysa Rogers were apportioned to all of the teams.
    STANDARDS: Soror Jackie Brown passed out the Mid-year Chapter Operations Survey. The surveys will be collected at the end of the meeting. A meeting will be held on April 12, 2005 to tally the results that will then be presented to the chapter at the May meeting.
    SPECIAL/AD-HOC COMMITTEES
    2005 FAR WESTERN REGIONAL CONFERENCE: Soror Kaweeda Adams made and impassioned plea
    for all sorors in the chapter to participate in the planning and implementation of the conference. She emphasized the need for sorors to volunteer to work the Registration booth and the AKA Office during the conference. A combined sign-up sheet was passed around for all events that will need volunteers.
    Soror Lavonne Lewis, Far Western Regional Director, thanked everyone for their hard work on the conference and requested every sorors assistance during the weekend.
    AKATEENS: No report.
    IVY READING ACADEMY: Soror Jackie Caffey thanked sorors who volunteered to be interviewed for the
    book being written about African-American educators in Las Vegas. Soror Jackie requests that all those who were interviewed submit a photo for the book. Soror Jackie announced that Soror Billie Rayford will be the guest speaker at the Detroit Connection Scholarship Awards Banquet.
    HEALTH/NBLIC: Soror Dorothy Johnson presented a list of the upcoming events for the NBLIC for March
    through October 2005. The NBLIC Western Regional Office has provided funding for one lap top, a projector, and a projector screen.
    TTO FOUNDATION FEASIBILITY COMMITTEE: Soror Tisha Johnson reported the committee met and reviewed and began to develop the bylaws for the Foundation. The committee will meet again after the Regional Conference and plans to have a proposal prepared for the chapter to review by the 3rd quarter 2005.
    SCHOLARSHIP: Soror Celeste Hunter advised the committee met on March 23 to choose the scholarsho recipients. The Reception luncheon will be held on May 1, at 12:00 pm ad the Rio Hotel. The scholarship recipients chosen were: Alisha Printup, Calisha Cooks, Kiana Fairman, Paris Harrell, and Kimberly Holford.
    Soror Celeste Hunter moved to select 2 recipients for the Presidential Freedom Scholarship to receive $1000 divided equally between TTO and the Presidential Freedom Scholarship. Motion seconded by Soror Amanda McWillliams. Motion passed.
    CONNECTIONS: Soror Verlia Davis-Hoggard reported AKA Day at the Capitol will be held on April 24.
    The fee is $75 and includes lunch and transportation to the hotel; airfare and lodging are not included and should be purchased and scheduled by the individual soror. Soror Verlia moved to provide the chapter roster to the legislators, if any soror does not want their information released they will contact Soror Billie to remove the name. Motion seconded by Soror Celeste Brown. Motion passed.

    Soror Ethel Archibald made a motion to spend $100 for a booth at the Links Women’s Health Activities. Motion seconded by Soror Kaweeda Adams. Motion passed.

    The meeting was called to order by 1st Anti-Basileus, Soror Barbara McCants-Hill at 11:17 a.m. at Holy Trinity A.M.E. Church. Soror Barbara Kirkland led the meditation.
    OFFICER REPORTS
    BASILEUS: Soror Barbara McCants-Hill allowed Soror Kaweeda Adams, 76th Far Western Regional Conference Chairman, to congratulate the chapter on a successful Regional Conference. Soror Kaweeda read a thank-you note from Soror Mattelia Grays.
    GRAMMATEUS: Soror Tisha presented the minutes from the May meeting. Soror Tisha Johnson made a motion to accept the minutes with the corrections. Soror Kaweeda Adams seconded the motion. Motion passed.

Announcements were made regarding Soror Jeanne Richard Jones being named 2005 Small Business Woman of the Year, Soror Tanya Flanagan will host a Greek Mixer on June 11, 2005 @ Shannon s Classic Theater at 9:00 p.m., Soror Virginia Ingram was scheduled for surgery today at 7:00 a.m., Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. will hold their annual scholarship fundraiser “Wine and Cheese Taste” on June 25, 2005, several e-mails and letters have been sent to Soror Ethel Archibald and the chapter regarding the 76th Far Western Regional Conference, Soror Gwendolyn Gates sent a thank-you note for the expression of sympathy, Soror Clair Hart invites the chapter to a Spring Concert on June 4, 2005, the city’s Juneteenth Festival will be held on Saturday, June 18, at Sammy Davis, Jr. Plaza from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.. Expressions of thanks and cards were read from Soror Karen Atkinson, Soror E. Lavonne Lewis, and Soror Janice Montague. Sympathy and prayers were extended to Soror Sonya Horsford and Honey-Do Steven.

    STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
    PROGRAM: Soror Barbara McCants-Hill announced a planning meeting for the next year’s events will be held at her house on July 19, 2005. All Committee Chairmen are asked to attend and bring with them ideas regarding next year’s activities.
    OPERATIONS: Soror Edna States advised she is available to assist all Committee
    Chairmen and requested they contact her if her assistance is needed. She attended the Reading Academy Closing Program and the 76th Far Western Regional Conference.
    MEMBERSHIP: Soror Wilhelmina Lee announced a meeting will be held at Soror
    Billie Rayford’s office in mid-June. A Summer Cooler is being planned for July or August, the date is not yet confirmed. The Committee would like to schedule a retreat for October or November in Zion National Park, UT.
    WAYS AND MEANS: Soror Diane Stith suggested the date November 19th for the
    3rd Annual Card Tournament.

    SPECIAL/AD-HOC COMMITTEES
    2005 FAR WESTERN REGIONAL CONFERENCE: Committee Chairmen
    presented written reports regarding the success of their individual committees. Discussion was held regarding medical staff on duty to react to medical/health issues during Conferences.
    AKATEENS: Soror Jackie Hall announced the AKAteens Recognition Program will be held on June 27th, at 7:00 p.m., at Nevada Partners.

    The meeting was called to order by Basileus, Soror Billie Rayford at 11:07 a.m. at Holy Trinity A.M.E. Church. Soror Barbara Kirkland led the meditation.
    OFFICER REPORTS
    BASILEUS: Soror Billie welcomed everyone to the meeting. She asked that all sorors participate in a moment of silence in honor/memory of Former Supreme Basileus Barbara K. Phillips, Soror Rosalyn Banks Guy, and Families and Communities impacted by Hurricane Katrina.
    Soror Billie recognized all Chapter members for their hard work to make the 76th Far Western Regional Conference a success. Also, kudos were extended to Soror Maxine Randolph and Soror Wilhelmina Lee for a successful “Summer Bash”.
    GRAMM ATEUS: Soror Tisha presented the minutes from the June meeting.
    Soror Tisha Johnson will present the June meeting minutes to the body at the October meeting for vote, as a quorum was not present.

    EP1STOLEUS: Soror Ethel Archibald presented the October and November event
    calendars. The announcement was made that the Budget Meeting will be held on October 19, after the E-board meeting. Thank you cards were read from Soror Sharon Walton, Soror Lynette Boggs-McDonald, and scholarship recipient Brittany Rayford.
    An invitation was read from the Links to participate in the IO111 Annual Walk-A-Thon on October 1, at JC Park; Kappa Alpha Psi Los Angeles Alumni Chapter invitation to attend the November 19 Black & White Ball.
    HODEGOS: Soror Billie Rayford recognized sorors visiting the chapter from in and out of town: Soror Patricia Moore (transferring from Los Angeles), Soror Ithanya Rucker, Soror Kathy Kraft (transferring from Maryland), Soror Erica Johnson (initiated at Kappa Xi 1997), and Soror Walisha Daniels (initiated Kappa Xi in 1998).
    All Sorors with birthdays in June, July, August, or September stood and were recognized by the chapter. All Sorors and Honey-Dos with Anniversaries in June, July, August, or September were recognized by the chapter.
    Congratulations were extended to Soror Sandra Douglas Morgan for her recent CD CD CD
    appointment to litigation attorney for MGM, Soror Celeste Hunter has recently been named Educational Consultant for Las Vegas, and Soror Donnyss Rucker has created a Miss Magnolia website.
    Get Well Wishes were extended to Soror Dorothy Hancock’s husband and Soror Nadine Reid Hill’s husband, as well as Soror Barbara McCants-Hill’s mother and Soror Flora Shaffer’s granddaughter.

    GRADUATE ADVISOR: Soror Donnyss Rucker reported Kappa Xi has 9 active returning members. The undergraduate chapter was well represented at Regional Conference. Their first meeting was held today, and they have begun preparations for Fall Activities.
    STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
    PROGRAM: Soror Barbara McCants-Hill reported the committee met on July 19 to plan next years events. She requests all committee chairs submit the dates of their proposed activities to her by September 16, 2005. Next years program schedule will be submitted at the October meeting.
    In May 2005, a Young Authors Writing Contest was held at Wendall Williams Elementary School. Student winners were: Steven Jones, grade 2, and Tokai Chaney, Grade 5.
    The Connections Committee wants to remind all sorors of the Eighth Public Policy Conference being held on September 22 -24, 2005 in Washington, D.C.
    OPERATIONS: Soror Edna Stated reported she attended the Chapter Program
    Workshop and reviewed chapter operations to be considered for the coming year, met with the editor of the Tea Rose Talk, attended E-board meeting, and attended the Summer Bash.
    MEMBERSHIP: Soror Maxine Randolph announced the committee met on July 14,
    2005 to discuss the Summer Bash and the Chapter Retreat to be held in Salt Lake City on October 29, 2005.
    Discussion was held regarding having a Membership Intake Process in 2005 or 2006.
    The body was unable to bring a motion for vote, as a quorum was not present.
    WAYS AND MEANS: Soror Peggy Selma distributed the Emerald Ball Committee
    form. She is considering a date for the Emerald Ball in March. Once she has finalized the dates, she will bring them before E-board for discussion.
    The Card Tournament (Tournament of Games) will be held at Doolittle Center on November 19, 2005.
    STANDARDS: No Report
    NOMINATIONS: Soror Nadine Reid-Hill announced that resumes are due for the
    November elections by September 30, 2005. Qualifications for the offices were attached to the agenda.
    SPECIAL/AD-HOC COMMITTEES
    AKATEENS: Soror Jackie Hall announced the AKAteen Tea will be held on September 24, 2005 at Doolittle Center, at 11:00 am. Flyers and invitations for the event were presented.
    IVY READING ACADEMY: Soror Jackie Caffey thanked sorors for their hard
    work, efforts, and donations with public acknowledgement in the meeting and tokens of her appreciation. The book, 100 Las Vegas African-American Educators has been completed and was presented at the meeting.
    HEALTH/NBLIC: No report
    TTO FOUNDATION FEASIBILITY COMMITTEE: Soror Sonya Horsford
    announced the next meeting will be held on September 28 at 6:00 pmat Nevada Partners.
    BLACK FAMILY: Soror Ina Dorman announced that donations are being accepted for the Hurricane Katrina victims and their families. The letter from Supreme Basileus Linda M. White was read requesting assistance. Ladies Day Out will collect “Coats for Kids” September 21 - October 22, 20.05.
    SENIOR ACTIVITIES: Soror Annette Craighead requested all committee members
    meet immediately following the chapter meeting.
    UNFINISHED BUSINESS
    Soror Adrienne Hester announced the 76th Far Western Regional Conference was featured in Las Vegas Life magazine, TTO is featured in 4 articles in the current edition of the Ivy leaf and the deadline to submit articles for the next edition is October 15, 2005.
    NEW BUSINESS
    Soror Billie Rayford requested the chapter’s support for Soror E. Lavonne Lewis, as the position of Regional Director will be up for election at the Regional Conference.
    The Regional Directors Newsletter is available.
    Las Vegas Life is looking for busy/active adults, male & female, ages 30-38 to compete in a contest the magazine is holding.
    Cluster will be held in Salt Lake City, UT on October 29 - 30, 2005.

    A thank-you note from Soror Virginia Ingram was read to the Chapter. A birth announcement for Johari Lewis, a new member of Sorro Beverly Winston’s family. Discussion was held regarding a recognition event held at Holy Trinity on October 30, in honor of Pastor and Mrs. Wasson. Get well wishes were extended to Dorothy Jones, the sister of Soror Winnie Pettis. Discussion was held regarding the Kappa Alpha Psi Los Angeles Alumni Chapter Black and White Ball to be held on November 19, 2005. Regional Director E. Lavonne Lewis will be honored at the event.

    GRADUATE ADVISOR: Soror Donnyss Rucker reported Kappa Xi has been approved for Fall
    MIP. MIP will be held the weekend of November 18 - 20, 2005. Flyers will be hung on campus October 18, 2005. Rush will be held October 22, 2005.
    Graduate sorors who want to attend the undergraduate MIP must contact Soror Donnyss Rucker for approval prior to attending.

    NOMINATING: Soror Nadine Reid-Hill read the names of the Sorors who had submitted resumes
    to run for an office. Nominations were then open from the floor. The following sorors will run for office on the November ballot:

    PROGRAM: Soror Barbara McCants-Hill submitted the proposed 2005-2006 calendar to the Chapter. Adjustments and changes were made to the calendar dates and proposed events..
    OPERATIONS:Soror Edna Stated reported she presided at the October Executive Committee Meeting on September 21, 2005. The meeting was held at the Rainbow Library. She also consulted with the chair of the Nominating Committee.
    MEMBERSHIP: Soror Maxine Randolph announced the committee has not met since the last
    meeting. Suggestions were made for activities to be held during the October Chapter Retreat in Salt Lake City, UT. Registration sheets for Cluster were passed out to the Chapter. Discussion was held regarding a suggestion to change the date and place of the Chapter Retreat in order to incorporate more sorors. Discussion was held regarding the reasons sorors may not be attending Chapter meetings. A suggestion was made to change the date, time, and/or place of the meeting. Additional suggestions were made to have sorors take a survey to determine the reason(s) they are not coming to meetings.
    WAYS AND MEANS: Soror Keysa Rogers advised the Emerald Ball date has yet to be determined. The committee is considering March 13 and March 27, 2006. .
    Soror Diane Stith reported The Card Tournament (Tournament of Games) will be held at Doolittle Center on November 19, 2005 from 12pm to 5pm. All sorors are requested to sell tickets to the event. STANDARDS: Soror Jackie Brown passed out and collected the 3rd quarter Evaluation forms.
    Discussion was held regarding dissemination of the evaluation forms to the Chapter.
    CONNECTIONS: Soror Barbara McCants-Hill during AKA day at the Capital in Washington, DC
    announced Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. members met with Senator Hillary Rodham-Clinton and Senator Barrack Obama. Sorors are encouraged to attend the event next year.
    SPECIAL/AD-HOC COMMITTEES
    AKATEENS: Soror Jackie Hall announced 37 young womend attended the AKAteen Tea held on September 24, 2005. Returning AKAteen members presented part of the program at the Tea. The next meeting will be held on October 8.
    IVY READING ACADEMY: Soror Jackie Caffey thanked sorors for their hard work, efforts, and donations with public acknowledgement in the meeting and tokens of her appreciation. The book, 100 Las Vegas African-American Educators has been completed and was presented at the meeting.
    HEALTH/NBLIC: Soror Denelle Hoggard reported October is SIDS month. She presented
    information to the Chapter regarding SIDS Awareness, including the definition and background of SIDS. Brochures regarding information was passed out.
    TTO FOUNDATION FEASIBILITY COMMITTEE: Soror Tisha Johnson reported the committee met on September 26 to discuss the progress of the Foundation Committee.
    * NATIONAL FAMILY VOLUNTEER DAY: Soror Amanda McWilliams reported the event will be held on November 19, 2005 at Doolittle Community Center from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Sorors were asked to contribute $10/each for the Thanksgiving baskets. The committee is asking the Chapter to cover the cost of the $300 room fee for Doolittle Community Center. A vote was not held as a quorum was not present.

    UNFINISHED BUSINESS
    Ratification of the Chapters endorsement for Soror E. Lavonne Lewis to run for a 2nd term as Regional Director will be held for a vote at the October E-board meeting.
