f Las Vegas Review /ournal-March 6} 1950 Water District 1 Manager to Be j Hired Soon, Said Choice of a general-hianager for the Las Vegas valley water district, is expected to be made within the next week or 10 days, clearing the way for early action on the various problems facing the board of directors, in j bringing water in from L a k e j Mead. A conference has been sched-1 uled for jj Saturday night with Kenneth Hill,, senior engineer for j the firm of Greeley and Hanson Chicago, consultants, who carried on the preliminary studies | for the district, and at that time ; applications for the executive post will be canvassed. As soon as this choice is made, the board plans to proceed a t ; once with negotiations along;] lo u r major lines,' completion o f’ ;which are regarded as vital to! ;the ultimate success of the pro-: ject. These are-: 1. -Purchase of the Las Vegas Land and Water '-company’s! wells and facilities. Officials of the compaify have indicated a i readiness and willingness to enter into discussions looking to-; ward ultimate taking over of1 their Las Vegas operation by the' water district and no difficulty is anticipated in this regard.. 2. -Purchase Of the pipe-line and pumping facilities now carrying water from Lake Mead to Basic plant. The board expects to negotiate with the Nevada Colorado river commission for: this unit, with the understand-! ing that the plant will have first! call on whatever water is nee-* essary -for -ttsr operation. 3. -Completion of an agreement with the air force for supplying the 4,000,000 gallons per day ultimately needed there. 4. -Contract with the resort ho-, . tels in the “ strip” ’ a.rea for their! I water supply now obtained from wells. Members of the board of direc- : tors are confident they vyill be able to carry through the details Of the program -and actually get under way with construction sometime during 1950.
