    Dear Jon:
I am deeply grateful for your donation to the Carol C. Harter Tribute Fund for the
Black Mountain Institute. I truly appreciate your generosity as we develop an
international center for modern letters including a non-partisan think tank for
discussion of major global issues. By merging the North American Network of
Cities of Asylum and the International Institute for Modern Letters into the Black
Mountain Institute as well, we hope to create a significant cultural entity at
    UNLV
As you know, I will be stepping down as UNLV’s president effective
June 30th. Although these past few months have been bittersweet, I’ve been
buoyed by the outpouring of support from university colleagues, friends and the
    Las Vegas community.
I enthusiastically look forward to my new role as Executive Director of the Black
Mountain Institute. Our activities promise to return me to the intellectual roots
that brought me into higher education more than forty years ago.
    Please accept my thanks again.

    With warmest wishes,

    Carol C. Harter

Jon (and Judy), I cannot tell you how grateful I am for your generous gift to BMI and for your trip to my reception last week. You are great!
