1 - Water system 2 - Rooming house 3 - Lots and lands Other holdings and operations of the Company outside the City of Las Vegas and the State of Nevada do not fall within the scope of this study. 3. Management The local management is under a general manager and his oper­ating staff. Water utility officers are officers and/or employees of the Union Pacific Railroad Company. On October 1, 1950, the operating personnel of the Las Vegas water distribution system consisted of 16 full-time employees. The positions and duties involved are listed below: General Manager. Has direct supervision of all the affairs of the Las Vegas operations of the Company. Assistant to General Manager. In charge of office, including supervision of office personnel, compilation of records, collections and accounting. Superintendent. Oversees all outside operations of distribution system, including construction and repairs. On contract work acts as inspector. A small portion of time is spent on operation and maintenance of the steam boilers in the room­ing house. Stenographer-Clerks (2). Duties include waiting on public and compiling of reports to accounting department of the Water Utility. Checker. Ghiefly engaged in counting number of houses served and collecting other data used in flat-rate billing. Rooming House Maids (3). Rooming house and office cleaning. Water Service Gang (7 men). Installation of new services, repair­ing leaks, and general operating and maintenance work.
