Yetadim Academy Kindergarten, the first full-day Jewish kindergarten in Green Valley has had a banner beginning. The class size is small and the chidren enrolled are getting an education far beyond anyone's expectations. Mrs. Connie Jackson, a veteren of twenty plus years as a kindergarten teacher in Clark County, focuses on true 'old school' academics in the morning. Her reading program and positive reinforcement of basic skills is incredible. After lunch, the children take part in all their enrichment classes which include Judaica/Hebrew and Spanish every day and music, computers, art, cooking and ice skating on varied afternoons. Everyone is thrilled wih the quality of educatiion and the comradery of the students at Yeladim Kindergarten. If you are not happy with your child's present kindergarten program, it might be worth a phone call to see what Yeladim has to offer. Enrollment for the 2002 school year will begin in January. For more information, please call Karen at 458-3555. Mamie Cherney, one ol our preschool parents, suggested MM0 based on a similar program she was part of in another state. MM0 is designed with ten children in mind (ages 1-2) and one teacher working with two volunteer parents [rotating on a five week schedule). Ihe group will meet one morning a week for two hours from 9:15-11:15. Each mother volunteers (with a second mother and the permanent teacher) for one morning in the five week session and then has the other four mornings free to do whatever she desires. MMO is Mommy 'n Me with a twist! It gives mother and children a chance to meet new friends and to be a part of the Yeladim Pieschool environment. Many changes have taken place over the past year and the amount of Jewish enrichment and enrollment has pleased both the temple and the preschool staff. With the addition of a full day kindergarten and a unique new 'mommy' progiam, Yeladim is certainly making strides towards the future of Jewish education for children. October was certainly a month full of Jewish holidays. Ihe preschoolers at Yeladim made project after project to decorate the Sukkah and to celebrate Simchat Torah. And Shabbat is always so special on Friday mornings. Miss Abbie leads the children in our Friday songfest and Miss Orly now adds an exra touch of Hebrew to all that we do Rabbi Wiederhorn has invited the preschool and kindergarten children to sing at Shabbat services on Friday, November 2nd. We are excited to sing for thecongregation of Midbar Kodesh Temple. Come watch the children sing at the services and you are sure to get a feeling of the nurturing atmosphere and Jewish spirit of Yeladim Academy. Class sizes are small and there are still openings for this school year. We would love you to stop in and see what Yeladim has to offer your child. J M FOOD B f l D K I I t l D J OUR H E L P ! Thanks to the amazing generosity of our congregation, Operation Isaiah was tremendously successful. By the end of the holidays, our lobby was l i t e r a l ly f i l l ed with donations of food for the JFSA food bank and clothing for the people at Safe Nest. Our synagogue helped many people wno have come upon some hard times. Unfortunately, the work continues. JFSA is still receiving an unusually high number of requests for groceries, utilities, rental and/or mortgage assistance. They do not want to have to turn anyone away at this critical time in our community. The food bank serves everyone and now constantly needs to be refilled. The Emergency Financial Assistance Program, which only services Jews, will soon exceed monies budgeted for the year. JFSA still needs our help. Please bring your donation of canned or unopened non-perishable goods to the synagogue. A bin has been set up in the lobby. Thank you for your continuing generosity. ~ T i f f a n y Doctors, SATO Chairperson ? ? ? ? m M m c/Wajl ( j o i comfort and sttsJain you together with the mourners of J i o n ani Jerusalem. Midbar Members Amy & Barry Fieldman recently hosted a private party to introduce B'nai Zion to the Las Vegas Jewish Community. B'nai Zion is an international organization that was established in 1908 and is one of the oldest Jewish humanitarian organizations in America. Its mission is focused on serving the needs of Jewish people in the United States and thoughout the world with particular emphasis on the support of Israel and the resettlement of new immigrants in the United States. They maintain offices in Pittsburgh, Florida, California and New York. The Los Angeles office of B'nai Zion sponored the piano recital of Richard Nanes that was held at the Fieldman's home. B'nai Zion selects local Jewish organizations and works in partnership with them in fundraising efforts. The silent auction, arranged by B'nai Zion, held before and after the recital, raised several thousand dollars and equally benefited both B'nai Zion and Midbar Kodesh Temple. The evening was catered by Madeline Morris, also a member of Midbar Kodesh Temple. B'nai Zion raises money for specific purposes including building and supporting hospitals, habiliation centers, schools and libraries in Israel. They sponsor forums and seminars on themes of current interest and look forward to co-sponsoring future projects with Midbar Kodesh Temple.
