S U P P O R T FRED B. BALZAR (Incumbent) FOR G O V E R N O R OF N E V A D A When Governor Balzar assumed office the affairs of State were in chaos and disorder. The State Treasury had been looted of half a million, State buildings were shamefully run down and neglected; records were badly kept; checking of money and securities had been neglected with well known results; the State was bonded almost to its constitutional limit. No Governor ever faced a more trying situation . . . but Governor Balzar made good. He has led us out of the wilderness, and Nevada is now in better financial condition than for many years. This required leadership, and the application of keen and constructive business principles. TH ESE A R E FACTS, NOT FAN CIES, AS TH E RECORDS C L E A R L Y PROVE HERE IS THE RECORD IN PART OF GOVERNOR BALZAR’S SPLENDID ACHIEVEMENTS Order has succeeded chaos. The State Tax Rate has been lowered. Total Tax Rate for 1923-26 was $2.58. Total for 1927-30 was $2.54. On July 1, 1930, the bonded indebtedness of the State had been reduced from $1,812,000.00 to $930,000.00. A reduction of $313,000.00 has been effected in the State Treasury defalcation which amounted to $516,322.16. All State buildings have been brought from a disgracefully neglected condition to a condition of splendid repair. « Settlement of the Civil W ar claim against the United States has been effected with a net benefit to the State of $446,307.40. Under his administration more miles of State Highway have been reconstructed and made first class than ever before in the State’s history. Governor Balzar was a potent factor in securing for Nevada revenues from the Boulder Dam project which will amount to $350,000.00 or more annually. A saving of $200,000.(X) was effected in changing the building program at the Hospital for Mental Diseases without impairing efficiency. For this he was complimented by the Nevada Taxpayers’ Association. Under the former administration as much as $210,000.00 of the State Permanent School Fund was allowed to remain uninvested and lie idle in the State Treasury, with a loss of thousands of dollars to our public schools. This condition has also been corrected. G OVERNOR B A L ZA R ’S AD M IN ISTR ATIO N IS M AR K ED W ITH H O N ESTY, EFF IC IEN C Y, A N D ECO N OM Y “ Don’t Swap Horses in the Middle of a Stream99
