T.P. Cullen— 2. the attorney® fo r the Southern p a c ific Company so that we may act in unison, i f possible, and therefore w ill reserve my reply to this inquiry fo r the presen t. In connection with the charges to be made to the Standard O il Company fo r wharfage for o il delivered through the pipe lin e of the Standard O il Company, I understand that hhe matter of preparation of new contracts with the Standard O il company is now in the hands of Mr, Cherrington, such contract to take the place of the two contracts expiring June 30 this year. In my opinion there is no question that we must charge the regular wharfage fees fo r a ll o il passing through the pipe lin e of the Standard O il company, and that i t is ille g a l for us to provide in any contract that the payment of one cent per barrel shall cover wharfage and dockage charges * I do not know i f we have any other contracts with pipe lin e companies sim ilar to that with the Standard O il, but i f we have, any provisions in such contracts, which provide fo r charges fo r wharfage and dockage different from the rates prescribed by the Ordinance, must give way to the Ordinance provisions, in other words, such contract provisions become (null and void , I return your f i l e herewith. Very truly yours, H -C -
