Bracken, who has charge o f the Las Vegas Land & Water Co. at Las Vegas, has "been endeavoring fo r some time to get someone in te re s te d who would take up q u ite a few o f our lo t s and B u ild houses which could he ren ted to our employes, hut up to th is time he has nothing d e fin it e . A number o f people have been con sid ering the m atter and we are n ot sure th at anything w i l l m a te r ia liz e . I t occurs to me th at when the shops are completed we w i l l employ a good many people and w i l l n e c e s s a rily have to have houses to take care o f them. The Las Vegas Land & Water Co. own a good many lo t s and have a good fund in t h e ir treasu ry. Dont you think i t would he a good plan fo r them to undertake to put up qu ite a number o f houses in stead o f the R a ilroa d Company? When the shops are completed i f we should employ 250 or 300 men I presume i t is safe to s ay that o n e -h a lf o f them w i l l have fa m ilie s . I f so, you w i l l see th at we w i l l req u ire a l o t o f houses. There is not a vacant housein Las Vegas at th is tim e. I am sending'copy o f th is l e t t e r to Mr. B e ttis and Mr. Whittemore and I w i l l he glad to g et your view s concerning the matter as soon as p o ssib le as i t w i l l not he many months u n t il we w i l l have to provide some way fo r taking care o f our employes.
