ESTABLISHED 1870. TELEPHO v TUCKER 7948 GEORGE H. BAILEY. PACIFIC COAST MANAGER. I National Meter Company MAIN OFFICE NEW YORK JOHN C.K ELLEY, JR. President. MANUFACTURERS OF WATER METERS - OIE METERS PITTSBURGH. CINCINNATI, ATLANTA WINNIPEG, LONDON,ENG. , - , . , , _______ SAN FRANCISCO. gibl CENTRAL AV El. LosAngeles 3309 E. 8th St. Mr. Walter R. Bracken, State Agent, L. A. & S. L. R. R. Co., Union Pacific System, Las Vegas, Nevada Dear Mr. Bracken: Your letter of Feb. 18th with reference to water meters for Yermo, California, at hand, and we axe pleased to give you the information you desire. The writer?called at Las Vegas in August, 1937, and at that time had a long conversation with you with reference to use of meters in the Las Vegas system. You may remember that at that time, we discussed the failure of "disc" water meters in the Las Vegas system and we recommended the use of the Empire piston water meter for these hard services. To take up your questions in order. First: The readings of the Empire Compound Meter as given in the diagram sent to me and returned herewith are correct. It is most important to know that it is necessary to add these two readings together and subtract the; previous month's readings, see page 31 1939 price list. Second: We can furnish our straight reading register with any size of meter that we sell. We make the flat claim that no competitive meter company make as good a straight reading register as ourselves. A comparison will quickly convince. Third: The head loss, or restrictions to the flow of water thru a 5/8", or 5/8x3/4H meter, is greater than that thru a 3/4,,x3/4" meter. It is important to notice that the 5/8x3/4B type 11 Empire water meter is the equal in capacity of the 3/4x3/4" disc meter. Where head loss is a consideration due to low pressures the buyer should always take advantage of the Empire meter as-its head loss is so small. Fourth: Our established price with the purchasing agent of the Union Pacific Railroad for the last three yeaxs is as follows: on watex metexs - Empixe, Crown, Gem and Empire Compound Meters - 45off. L. H. Nash Metexs - 5Q€ off.
