SUBJECT: Las Vegas Land and Water Company Los Angeles - June 17, 1949 LA 3-4 Mr. A. M. Folger - Las Yegas: (CC: Mr. E. M. Kerrigan - Omaha Mr. L. A. White - Omaha ) Below is quoted a newspaper article from one of the Los Angeles papers pertaining to the water situation at Las Vegas: ’’Lake Mead Aqueduct to Supply Las Vegas ”Las Yegas, Nev., June 13.-(U.P.)- Las Vegas will soon get its water supply from nearby Lake Mead instead of depending on desert artesian wells. ’’Harry E. Miller, president of the Las Vegas Water District, said a contract was signed yesterday with a Chicago engineering firm for the construction of a 30-mile aqueduct from the lake.” This seems to be a rather definite statement in that a contract was signed with a Chicago engineering firm for the construction of a 30-mile aqueduct from Lake Mead. Appreciate if you will let me have your views and the facts at the present time as to just what is involved and what effect it might have on our own water situation at Las Vegas.
