Las Vegas,Nevada REVIEW - JOURNAL January 16, 19^9 J. JAN tC.^9 Water District Survey Expected In Near Future j The Las Vegas valley water; j district commissioners, at their ! first active meeting Friday night, j j took steps to get the project un- j jder way and it is expected that i an engineering firm will be se- j j lected within the next month orI so to start work on the survey o f , the area. Harry E. Miller, chairman of the board, reported that a $10,000 I loan from the county had been: ? received and that the commissioners now were ready to start j active work on the project. He said that several engineering! firms had submitted proposals for the survey and that the first task facing the board would be! to select the firm to do this work.; Among the firms submitting pro- j; pOsals was one local group, Miller f : said. It is the plan of the commis- | sic»n to call all of the engineering ' outfits into conferencee with the commissioners,, receive their pro- j posals and then select the one which the commissioners believe ! will do the best job. Under the I present plans, the firms will -'e ' called in, one at a time and prob- 1 ably two each evening, until all ! of the agencies have been inter- ; viewed. Then the choice will be made, Miller said. It is hoped, he said, that the job can be cleaned up in two weeks afteY ; the first firm is. invited in. There was much discussion;; | over the validity of the water | j district act and there was a feel- j i ing that some of the sections of [ ?the act should be clarified and | strengthened, Miller said. Toward | [that end, the commissioners will! | confer with the Clark county i ! legislative delegation in the near 1 future with a view toward accomplishing this. Calvin Corey, representing the Union Pacific railroad, attended j the meeting- and reported to the | commissioners that he had informed the railroad company that; the act was' constitutional and! that he was certain that; the. board had the authority to dicker [with the railroad company for 'purchase- of the present distribu-1 ition system in the city of’ Las I Vegas, Miller said.
