ORDINANCE NO. 523 AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND EMERGENCY ORDINANCE NO. 468 ENTITLED: "AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS, COUNTY OF CLARK, STATE OF NEVADA, CREATING AND ESTABLISHING CIVIL SERVICE RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR THE EMPLOYEES OF SAID CITY, DEFINING TERMS; PROVIDING FOR EXAMINATION; ESTABLISHING ELIGIBILITY LISTS; PROVIDING FOR APPOINTMENTS; PROMOTIONS; DISCIPLINARY ACTION; REPORTS AND RECORDS; CLASSIFICATION AND PAY PUNS; AND ALL MATTERS RELATING THERETO; AND REPEALING ORDINANCE 391 AND ALL OTHER ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT THEREWITH, "BY CHANGING THE AGE REQUIREMENTS AND PROVIDING FOR EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS OF APPLICANTS FOR THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS OF THE CITY: AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH. The Board of Commissioners of the City of Las Vegas do ordain as follows: SECTION 1. Section IV, Paragraph G, of the Civil Service Rules and Regulations of the City of Las Vegas is hereby amended to read as follows: AGE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS. All applicants for positions in the Police and Fire Departments of the City of Las Vegas shall meet the following requirements. (1). Applicant shall have reached his 21st birthday but shall not have reached his 36th birthday; provided, however, that consideration shall be granted for previous service rendered in the type of work applied for, in the following manner: For each year of previous service the applicant shall receive one year credit on the age requirement, up to but not exceeding four years maximum credit. (2) Applicant shall have received a high school education as evidenced by a diploma or other proof of satisfactory completion. SECTION 2. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith, are hereby repealed. SECTION 3. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon its publication, as in the next section provided and final passage. SECTION 4.
