Fourteen Years of Failure is Enough- 1987 SUNDAY MONDAY TUESDAY WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAY SATURDAYFourteen Years off Failure Does N Qualify Ron Lurie to be our Mayor. Ron Lurie has had fourteen years to understand and solve our problems. He has failed. When asked what issues he was going to talk about in his campaign for mayor, Mr. Lurie said ... ?the same issues I?ve been talking about for fourteen years.?? We need more than talk?we need some action. Our transportation system is a mess, our roads are in need of repair. All Mr. Lurie wants to do is raise our taxes. Mr. Lurie only serves the special interests, not the public interest. Mr. Lurie has turned our streets into a traffic jam. City traffic and transportation problems are getting worse. Mr. Lurie is Chairman of the Regional Transportation Commission and he has failed to solve them. It?s Lurie?s job to make the traffic and transportation system work. After fourteen years all Mr. Lurie has to say is .. the commission has written plans which if implemented, would improve the transportation system.? We have had enough plans, now we need some action. Getting around Las Vegas in a car could take a lifetime. Street lights don?t work, potholes go unrepaired and street improvements are planned for the convenience of the power brokers?not the people. We have waited too long for a bus system that works. Mr. Lurie is supposed to make the bus system work. Instead of putting more buses on the streets or adding routes Mr. Lurie wasted millions of our tax dollars on a new Transit Center for the tourists. Lurie cannot be a full-time Mayor. Ron Lurie has a full-time job working as Director of Sales for a Japanese slot machine company. Lurie will be a part-time mayor. Las Vegas deserves and needs a full-time mayor. Lurie wants to raise taxes. We are already paying City Hall too many tax dollars for too little in return. Now Mr. Lurie wants to raise our taxes. Mr. Lurie has made repeated trips and calls to Carson City to ask the Legislature to raise our property taxes. Do Lurie?s actions represent your opinion? Taxes Seniors and Shortened Center Hours. Senior citizens should not have to pay to use a public facility. Under Lurie?s direction all senior center users must pay a tax to use these centers. The only way for seniors to avoid the tax is to publicly embarrass themselves by proving they cannot afford the tax. Over the protest of many seniors, Mr. Lurie shortened the hours senior centers are open. These actions just don?t make sense. Lurie represents the special interests?not the public interest. For fourteen years Mr. Lurie has served the special interests who have kept him in office. He directs a hospital which has been under investigation for having too high profits. And, he has taken thousands of dollars from special interests? casino owners, wealthy land owners, banks and hospitals. It is no wonder that when our interests conflict with Lurie's special interests?we lose. Fourteen years of failure does not qualify Ron Lurie to be our Mayor.1987 ?i ? I Fourteen Years of Failure is 1973 Enough.
