To $34,000 in 1950 .Nevada’s school lunch prograth will receive $34,414 in federal funds for the 1950 fiscal year, a $4,500 increase over last year, Sen. Pat McCarran announced yester­day following President Truman’s signing of the new agriculture de­partment appropriation bill. Nationally, $83,500,000 was al­located for the school lunch pro­gram. This amount was retained by Senate Appropriations Com­mittee conferees on the agricul­ture bill, With Senator McCarran one of the conferees, after the house of representatives appropri­ations committee conferees re­quested a sharp reduction. The fund is the largest amount ever appropriated to carry on the pro­gram. “I feel this'is an important pro­gram,” Senator McCarran said. These funds provide to our under­nourished children a source for a nourishing meal at least once a day.” Nevada received $29,717 for the 1949 fiscal year with funds going to both public and private schools. The same matching of federal-state funds is provided for the next year, insuring a wider national program., —--------- ¥ ------ ----- .
