Senator Chic Hecht United States Senate 302 Hart Senate Office Bldg. Washington DC 20510 Dear Chic: AIPAC welcomes the Administration's decision to pull back indefinitely the Jordan arms sale in view of the lack of "direct and meaningful peace negotiations" between Israel and Jordan. We believe the peace process is crucial to U.S. interests in the region, and we strongly support the President's policy of direct negotiations. It was your strong support ? and that of your colleagues ? for direct negotiations between Israel and Jordan prior to an arms sale, that was instrumental in removing the weapons package. We deeply appreciate your support and your assistance in making this possible. We look forward to continued close cooperation and friendship with you and your staff. With best wishes. Sincerely, Thomas A. Dine Executive Director TAD/DMB:jw Douglag^l?^riloomfield Legislative* Director 500 NORTH CAPITOL STREET, N.W. SUITE 300 WASHINGTON, D.C. 20001 (202)638-2256 President: Robert H.
