Operation Independence Inc. 325 JEFFERSON STREET LAS VEGAS, NEVADA LUBERTHA M. JOHNSON Project Director P H O N E 382-7327 March 14, 1966 EARLE WHITE, JR. Chairman of the Board Mrs. Edythe Katz 1273 South Park Circle Las Vegas, Nevada Dear Mrs. Katz: As your Chairman, I want to write you at this time and thank you for your faithful attention to matters pertaining to the Operation Independence Board. As you know, we have had several meetings recently at which there was no quorum, and I am contacting all members of the Board in an effort to stimulate more interest in our activities. You may have read recently that our Day Care Centers have received approval for federal funds in the sum of $106,000. The Community Service Center project is being considered for funding in the sum of $133,000. The Hot Lunch program for West Las Vegas schools has been resubmitted, and, if approved, will add a forty thousand dollar project for the benefit of the children in West Las Vegas. As a voting Trustee, you share responsibility for the policies which govern the expenditures of these thousands of dollars. You also assist in setting the policies which govern the activities of our many employees. I urge you to con tinue sacrificing one or two nights of your time each month in order to take part in the administration of the programs which have poured nearly 1/2 million dollars into our community. Operation Independence can and should become a forceful, representative group to work with the prob-lems of West Las Vegas long after the poverty programs have ceased to exist. There will be a regular board meeting on March 23, 1966, at 7:30 p.m., to be held in Jefferson Center, 325 Jefferson Street. There are several important matters that must be taken care of this month, so please make every effort to be present. Earle W. White, Jr Chairman
