Mr. d, P» Carey, - Superintendent, Los Angeles A: Salt Lake Hail read Company, Lee Angeles, California, J/f .Lear S i r :- / 1 1 m y . Referring t© copy of fbxm 5529 sent to yon, and signed by J. H. Gordon, in reference to condition of water supply fo r both the railroad ahel towns!te purposes. I wish to advise that it is absolutely unnecessary fo r a filt e r in g station to be in stalled here. We have, fro® tl®e to time, and are having, analysis made of the water impply of Las Vegas, and at no time have we ever found it filt h y or injurious. Mr. Gordon’ s statement to that offset , and in using the word "filth y ", is absolutely malicious, and fa ls e . Our water supply it one of the best and purest of any city in the west. I t is m fact that occasionally, but very seldom, a small fish.about one-half inch in else, and as large i t the thickness of a lead, pencil, w ill get through one of the three screens which we have at the intake and head |f§ Pip® lin e, but even this cannot in any way injure the ?water, or make i t filt h y . We have been using this water, and in the same manner, fo r the past twenty years in Las Vegas, and at no time have we over had an epidemic or sickness of any kind, resulting from the use of this water. 1 believe hr. Gordon should be so informed, and retract his statement to the "Safety Committee", and I hope that you w ill take the matter up and prosecute i t u n til such is done.
