$0-N?║wde Stale Journal | Thursday, Dec. 12, 19681 Opening of 'Holiday on Ice' Provides Genuine Enjoyment By LUANNE MANDEVILLE The first annoyance at poor acoustics in the Reno Coliseum dissolves into genuine enjoyment of the skating, humor and costuming of the 24th annual production of Holiday on Ice, showing through Dec. 15. Represented in the many acts of the production are Connie and Glyde, a blinking - eyed pooch, a jungle village voodoo ritual, plus many combinations of feathers, sequins, chiffon, satin and just good skating. New York Review A review of New York in the "good old days" starts the show, but turns out rather weak. The blending of slides without any intensity and recorded singing bouncing off the spacious walls definitely detracts from the talent of stars including National and International Champions recruited from 15 countries. A beagle-basset pooch is featured in another part of the production. The pooch, probably constructed of velvet and two men, is quite coordinated as he scratches his ear while sitting in a little girl's lap. This act started the upward swing in the show as the audience's attention concentrated in the actual acts rather than external interference. Connie and Glyde Connie and Glyde are modeled after Bonnie and Clyde. Glyde appeared on the ice driving an old jalopy and hunting for Connie. She came swaying out of the audience, shaking out handkerchiefs, etc., from her purse as dust diffused in the air. The Chummy Chimps and their Big Daddy are full of surprises because of the chimps' amazing skating ability. One begins to wonder how long it took them to learn to do spins, jumps and other free-style skating. It takes several years for people-type skaters to learn this. Perfectly Matched Two acts featuring Tommy Allen and Juanita Percelly prove to be most inspiring for any skating enthusiast. Their pair- skating is perfectly matched, in addition to being vivacious and lively. Costuming and choreography are particularly evident in a sequence called Jungalero. Natives appear m\rattley shell costumes, fluorescent red and green, highlighted by ultraviolet lighting effects. Also in the sequence is a cat girl who is killed by the White Hunter twice with dancing between. It seems cats have up to nine lives. A light and airy act called Rockin' Happy, stars Miss Sunshine, Grete Borgen skating to music of the Yellow Balloon and Sunny. Finale The finale is a tribute to the Hollywood Marquee Favorites of ?╟÷ All Time, including such personalities as Jackie Coogan, Robin Hood, Shirley Temple and Tar- zan and Cheeta. Tadpoles are little frogs.
