Las Vegas - Fetru&ry 2$$ 1950 V 2>X~ Mr* Wa* Reinhardts Major Gargin phoned me jesterdaj that he had been delegated a committee of one to asoertaln from the Water Company what arrangements were being Bade to furnish fire protection to the Fourteenth Street Addition thie ewaner* 2 advised hia we had in Bind plans to extend the present 12-inch Bain on Stewart Street easterly to Bruce, and take off cross laterals to serve the Fourteenth Street Addition* He asked me if I would give him a letter to that effect but 1 told him the plana were tentative and so far as Z knew had not yet been approvedg but that 2 would consult you* fhe proposed extension is referred to in ray letter August 1 0 , fpt#- and February l*t# 1950, design and estimate being attached to the former. 2n this connection, the situation In the 14>th Street and Church Additions is becoming alarming for this early In the year, and some complaints on low pressure are already being received* In Block 1 of the Church Addition, when the sprinkler wagon takes water from the 3-inch fire hydrant on 19th Street, the pressure goes off entirely &n the houses on 18th Street* As a temporary expedient, to afford prompt relief, 2 recommend Immediate installation of an 8~lnch main from the Mayfair line at Brace and Stewart easterly about 650 feet to & connection with the 6-inch line at the north end of Block 1, Church Addition, this will prmit us to maintain better deliveries to the hundred new houses In Church and Moblitt Additions, and with the assistance of two pressure reducing valves at 21st Street also hold up the pressures In the Fourteenth Street Addition* If and when the 12-inoh main Is approved in Stewart Street, previously referred to, we can connect it with the proposed 8-lnoh line and also have available a point far extension northerly In Bruoe Street* Betiiaate of cost is attached and 2 will appreciate your concurrence* A* M* Polger
