    FOREWORD Concrete boxes with concrete covers and readingiTOs pro­viding a permanent protection for water meters and valves were originated by the Art Concrete Works twenty years ago. IThe inherent superiority of properly made concrete over other materials for meter boxes has steadily become more apparent. The original, designs have beefy mproved many times. The most modern methods of manufacture have been adopted increasing the quality of the product, also affording savings to tuajil'sefs, The new No. 36 Art Con­crete Meter Box described iralhis catalog is the last word in meter box design. Art Concrete Meter Boxes are far in advance of aII others in permanence, practicability, and attractive appear­ance and this accounts for the sale of more than a million boxes to a thousand different water works. Among those who have used Art Concrete Meter Boxes for ten years or more and who have from 5000 to 200,000 in use are Pasadena Los Angeles San Diego Long Beach Santa Monica Santa Barbara San Bernardino Oakland San Francisco San Jose Santa Clara Portland, Ore. The above cut illustrates our No. 3 meter box which has been made standard by many of the ^largest Pacific Coast water systems including Oakland, San Francisco, San Jose, Santa Barbara, San Diego, and Honolulu in the Hawaiian Islands. The No. 3 meter box is standard with one-piece rein­forced concrete lid but may also be had with strongly ribbed cast iron lid for alley traffic. All Art Concrete Meter Boxes are a standard depth of approximately 12 inches. Depth extension sections may be had, however, to provide any additional depth desired.
