Few pop artists have such a detailed interest in or such a wide knowledge of all forms of music as twenty-five-year-old Epic recording artist Georgie Fame. Born Clive Powell on June 26, 1943, in Leigh, Lancashire Georgie traces his interest in music back to early childhood. His father, a cotton spinner, played piano accordian at local church socials, and Georgie often "sat in" with the church choir, where he picked up the rudiments of music. After school he would beat out rhythms on the slates he found on building sites, wrestle out tunes on a cheap harmonica or pick out a pop song on the home piano. By the time Georgie was thirteen, Britain had been invaded by Bill Haley and the rock boom was on.
