Hospice is first and foremost a wonderful, specialized home care program. When acute symptoms management or respite care is required, the natural home-like sur-roundings of the Hospice facility provide a peaceful, dignified setting for those approach-ing the final stage of life. Hospice is a concept of personalized care based upon a philosophy of unconditional love and acceptance. The Hospice interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, social workers, counselors, clergy, volunteers and staff work with the patient and family to achieve a pain free, gentle close to life's journey. The NAH is a living memorial to Nathan Adelson, one of Las Vegas' leading citizens and a great humanitarian who passed away from terminal cancer in 1978. The program's accelerating growth drama-tizes its importance. During the past five years more than 1,200 patients have been cared for by NAH teams. Nearly half of these were cared for during 1985 alone. When the NAH program admitted its first patient, there were but a few hospices in the nation. Today there are an estimated 1,700 hospice programs. The NAH also plays a leading role in the American hospice movement. Almost every day operational information and assistance is provided to other programs and interested communities across the nation. THE FOUNDATION The Nathan Adelson Hospice accepts all medically appropriate terminally ill patients. No one is ever turned away because he or she cannot afford NAH care. Complete accessibility without regard to a family's ability to pay and the finest quality of hospice care in the world requires substantial private funding. The Foundation delivers the support that makes it all possible.
