IMr. G. C. Fish: Los Angeles - February 1 5 , 19^5 377^ It has now been determined that we w ill prooeed with the d r illin g of a well at Las Vegas and construction of a pipe lin e from well to reservoir, in accordance with AFE except that we w ill d r i ll the well to about 8 }0 * instead of 2 ,000*. We are arranging with E. B. Hall & Co. to d r ill the well and set the casing, and that Company w ill be ready to move onto the Job within the next two weeks, making i t important that the concrete foundation work, of which you have drawing, be insta lled at onoe. This w ill include the four derrick foundations with b o lts, but the derrick w ill not be constructed at this time. It was f ir s t understood that the derrick foundation and pipe lin e excavation should be constructed by oontraot in the absence of Maintenance forces to perform the work. However, i t is now understood that the Maintenance organization has demanded this work, and accordingly the Job is turned over to your forces for construction; concerning same, please note the follow ing: (a) Rotary rig cannot dig through the rock formation at the surface. It w ill be necessary to break up the lime rock to a depth of 6 * ( i f the formation extends that deep) and to a diameter of not less than 24** around center of the well h ole. This should be done at once, and as soon as accomplished the hole thus prepared b a ck -fille d and the concrete platform and pedestal foundations fca? the future derriok constructed at once so that the f a c ilit y may be ready to move onto, avoiding any lo ss of time incident to curing of concrete, eto. (b) The pipe lin e has been staked out, and cuts are indicated upon l**x2 ** blue top stakes set 10 0 * apart and o ffs e t S* so that elevations may be preserved while digging. The cut depths indicated on these stakes are to invert o f pipe and y should be added to allow fo r pipe b e lls . Center lin e stakes with tacks are set at 1 0 * o ffs e t westerly from oenter lin e . There w ill be a considerable amount of earth-digging, which, for economy, should be performed by a tractor shovel spanning the ditch , but in addition, there is no doubt that a considerable amount of rook excavation w ill be encountered, requiring powder. ( 0 ) The AFE provides for a by-pass lin e from the reservoir to the booster pumps, but we have d e fin ite ly determined that materials for this by-pass lin e w ill not be available this year, and as we oan temporarily operate ( 1 )
