    C O P Y Las Vegas - March 31, 1939 W 23-3-4 Mr. J. P. Mach, D i v i s i o n Engineer, Los Angeles, California. D e a r Sir: On inspection yeste r d a y of the Springs a n d Wells, Settling-b a s i n and Reservoir: We f o u n d that the w a t e r in the reservoir stood at 9 feet, a n d that Well N o - 2 (the new one) w h i c h w a s making such a perfect rec o r d last year after b e i n g cleaned out, has again possibly sanded u p u n t i l it is flowing only about two-thirds of the capacity of the 1 2 - i n c h pipe. At the present time there has b e e n no complaints r e g a r d i n g shortage of water, but these indications are serious, occurring this early in the Spring. I think we should be looking forward to the fact that we w i l l be short of water w h e n the hot t e r months arrive a n d I a m w o n d e r i n g if it w o u l d not be a good thing for us to throw in a cheap eart h e n dam to hold the wa t e r f r o m the Open Spring w h i c h is now running d o w n the Creek, and install a small electric pump w i t h a 4-inch out-flow to throw the w a t e r from this d a m into the settling-basin. It might be neces s a r y for us to a g a i n have Well No-2 c l e a n e d out a n d re-perforated as was done last year with, as you will recall, a nice increase of water over that w h e n the well was first finished. We must take into consi d e r a t i o n the fact that during the past year, through FHA loans, there has b e e n about 100 new houses c o n s t r u c t e d here in Las Vegas, and all of them have new lawns, trees, eto., and we are still laboring under the iniquitous law w h i c h p r e v e n t s the use of meters. * * In con v e r s a t i o n this morning w i t h one of the City C o m m i s sioners that they are passing a n ordinance restricting the flow of w a t e r into c o o l i n g systems, requiring each and every system to r e c a p ture the water, w h i c h will u n d o ubtedly be a great saving. However, I w i s h to b r i n g these matters to your a t t e ntion at this time so w e will not be caught short w h e n the hot weather arrives. Yours very truly, W A L T E R R. BRACKEN, Vice-President.
