1990 JEWISH FAMILY SERVICES LONG RANGE PLANNING COMMITTEE Minutes 8/29/91 MEMBERS PRESENT: Bea Levinson, Chair Bernie Kaufman Sandi Walton Ruth Urban Arlene Peikoff Blut Sherm Kerner David Gross Bill Feldman Meeting called to order by Chair Bea Levinson. David Gross reported that the computer is up and running at JFSA. The office staff is very talented and capable. They are very excited about the computer capabilities. With the computer we are now on target administratively for FY 91 according io Bea. Bea discussed the presentation to the Board regarding the LRPC. The Board wanted the LRPC to evaluate the Executive Director. Bea read the bi-laws which clearly outline it is the role of the Board to do this evaluation. Sandi Walton said the client survey has been collected and tabulated. She questioned how valid the findings were as she suspects there were problems with the code. Sixty out of one hundred surveys were returned completed. No negative comments from clients were received. All but one survey was above satisfactory in the rating of services and one was just satisfactory. All responses indicated the initial reception by phone was good and the quality of service was good. Ruth Urban asked Bill for the results of the telephone inquiries for services. Bill said mostly housing for elderly and counseling services were requested. Additionally homemaker services were requested. David said there were 800 phone calls per month coming in to JFSA. Bea requested that Sandi and Bill each write a paragraph for the LRPC report reflecting what their findings were from the survey and the phone tally. Bill outlined the areas that he felt the agency needs to provide in the future: Kosher meals on wheels and Adult day care. He pointed out that Montavista and Charter, both private facilities, provide counseling in the community for people with means. Sherm Kerner said he feels counseling is a necessary service provided by the JFSA because Jewish people want a Jewish agency. A lengthy discussion ensued about enlarging the scope of the counseling services. Presently one and one half staff provide counseling. Bill is the half time counselor. Sherm suggested a social worker assigned to work with hospitals to assist Jewish people upon release. Sandi Walton suggested something other than Senior Day Care but a similar program where seniors could come to socialize. Bill explained that
