After sone discussion tt was agreed that this provision should also be amended in order bo keep down oorsplalnts against the'Mil. This objection apparently originated at Carson City. Question then arose as to who was raising the. most strenuous opposition to the Mil and one of the ©80foc#s stated the farmer ch&Irmn of the water district, &* o* Grant, was in the legislature at the present tine, sir-ply ‘raising hill * and that it might be a good idea to get in touch with hin and cals him down, f he president then called Mm on :\ th© long distance, but did not succeed In calling Mm down* Grant stated over the telephone that he had worked hard for the creation of the district nd had assured everyone that. there would b® no increa se In taxes because of formation of the water district; that he was absolutely opposed to the Mil and intended to come back to baa Vegas and tell the people via radio, at his mm cost, what the water district was trying to slip over* And in addition the chalrnati of the (Hark County delegation stated flatly that the MIX would not pass because everybody was s&kJLnst it* The members of the water district board ecpscb to go to Oarsom City Monday or Tuesday In an effort to smooth, out the opposition to the bill, just before conclusion of the meeting 1 s&fcsd the members if they w:ld clarify the position of the water dl*» trlot with regard to. proposed acquisition of tub distributing system so t would know whether to recommend to ay superior# certain imv movements 1 had. in mind to keep pace with tne-\ growth of the city. They had no definite plans in mind, but the president stated *Xf this bill does not pass, ve are •dead fish* and will .probably have to abandon the plan**1 The- concensus of opinion was that the water o mo any should proceed with whatever plans it had In ad.net .because, at the best, they would not be in a position to accomplish anythin© concrete for « matter of about two years.
