of arid lands to the State of Utah and there is no question but what g the State’s selection will be approved. Mr. James is entirely responsible and no doubt will carry out his contract. 3!hese lands have little or no value and his application to purchase the quarter section was only made to enable him to convey the lands required by the Railroad Company. He expresses a willingness, if we desire, to assign to the Company his contract with the State, but as we have no use for any of this land except that described in the contract I think it would be better to allow him to complete the title and convey the desired lands to this Company. I did not feel justified in closing this matter without first submitting same to you. If you approve of the arrangement as made please advise me accordingly and arrange authority for me to draw for the amount necessary or have necessary authority given McCornick & Co. to make the payment. I am enclosing copies of the deed and agreement referred to and am also writing Mr. Wells on the subject and returning to him the original contract of February 15th, 1905. Yours very respectfully.
