FINMARK congratulated the new Senators and suggested to those who were not appointed to join committees. SEN. BERNARDI congratulated the new Senators, and stated that due to her new job, she will have to resign her seat in the near fu-ture. She stated that there should be large activities that must have their costs offset, but suggested that no students be charged for the comedy concert. SENATE MEETING 21-03 5 IX. OPEN DISCUSSION, CONTINUED SEN. REED congratulated the new Senators, and informed Pres. Bunin that the Senate is not attempting to give the committees a hard time, but that those of the Senate who are new are trying to learn. She asked who listens to her radio show, which is on KUNV at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays. She told the Senate that it is their responsibility to listen to the show to support the OSI depart-ment. SEN. KOSTMAN congratulated the new Senators, wished Sen. Bernardi good luck, and requested that Sen. Pres. Polovina please clear up the matter he spoke to her about earlier. He wished everyone a good Thanksgiving. SEN. LOVE congratulated the new Senators, and suggested that non-students should be charged for the comedy concert, not students. SEN. YOUNG congratulated the new Senators, and informed those that were not appointed that there are other ways to join in. SEN. ORTEGA thanked everyone for the appointment, congratulated the new Senators, and stated that she is involved with a fundraiser to be held in February for Malteiplm Su.luriui.Li, and that voluteers are needed. SEN. JENSEN thanked the Senate for his appointment and stated that he is excited to be here. SEN. ADAIR thanked the Senate for his appointment, thanked Pres. Bunin for his support, and congratulated all those who were ap-pointed. SEN. RICCI congratulated all the new Senators, stated that she found the Yellin1 Rebel article to be weak and inaccurate, and of the type that would be seen in the GLOBE or the STAR, and not the type of stuff that should be in the newspaper. She stated that this type of thing has been going all semester, and that while she is not attacking the Yell, they should concentrate on news, not sensationalism. SEN. FIELD apologized for missing last the meeting, stating that work interferred. She stated that she is concerned about the format of the Yellin' Rebel, stating that it seems to be centered on what can be dug up on CSUN. She congratulated the new Senators. SEN. CUDLIP recommended to Sen. Ortega that she pass a sign up sheet around at the next meeting. He wished Sen. Maultsby good luck, and congratulated Senators Adair and Jensen. He wished everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving. He asked the Yell1 to please spell his name right. RICHARD CROW requested the proper spelling. PRES. BUNIN told him to ask a witness or a close acquaintance. SEN. ROTH congratulated the new Senators. He stated that CSUN is starting to get a strong Senate, and that he is bummed about the controversy, stating that he wishes that the Yell and Student Government would work together. He stated that he hopes everyone enjoys their turkey. SEN. BUNIN thanked Director Smith for her excellent report, wel-comed all Senators, and told Karen Splawn to cheer up. SEN. LEE congratulated the new Senators. SEN. MAULTSBY thanked the Senate for his appointment, congratu-lated the new Senators, and stated that the comedy concert should be free to students if at all possible, and that he doesn't see too big of a problem if $1 is charged for what would otherwise be a $15 concert. SENATE MEETING 21-03 FROM THE GALLERY: 6 DAVID GILLESPIE stated that it is a good idea to charge a fee for the comedy concert. MICHAEL SIMMONS suggested that the revenues be donated to a charity. FROM THE EXECUTIVES: SENATE PRESIDENT PRO TEMPORE BENNEMAN congratulated the new Senators. He stated that there was a downside to this meeting, the large amount of noise in the gallery. He admonished those in the gallery not to run back and forth from the gallery to the Senate tables to speak to a Senator, wait until after the meeting and show some respect to the Senate. He stated that in respect to the Yellin' Rebel, the Student Government is similar to a fraternity, as it can do large amounts of good, but that the bad will be sensationalized, as CSUN is looked at with a magnifying glass. He stated that he hopes everyone has a good Thanksgiving. PRES. BUNIN congratulated the new Senators, thanked the Senate for appointing Sen. Adair and Sen. Jensen, as they showed an ex-traordinary effort to get informed and involved, asking questions that were impressive. He informed Sen. Reed that he forgets that new Senators are in, and that while a period of adjustment oc-curs, things do tend to break down. He stated that the small details are not the problem with the comedy concert, the cost was the thing in question. He told Richard Crow not to get upset about the Yellin1 Rebel, that he understands to some extent, and that the Government is in the public eye. He agreed that bad news is the news that gets people interested, but that there is two problems: 1) what went on Pres. Bunin stated that he didn't think that the problems the Yell had were a result of the editorship, but that the guy who wrote the article was too involved in the occurrence, and was ac-ting like a cop at a crime scene. He stated that some of the quotes were not delivered to the reporter under the auspices of a reporter, and that he is not sure that the facts are accurate. He stated that when it boiled down to it, the facts were a) he was dressed like a wizard, and b) he has to question the gossip about a cap...some thing is fishy about the story. 2) animosity at the Yell Pres. Bunin stated that due to the fact that some animosity was left over from last year, some of the reporters cover the meet-ings with a selective viewpoint, and that the items being reported are not very relevant to the the meeting, as thay are too selective and fragmented and do not give an overall repre-senatation. He stated that he doesn't think the problem is in the editorship, as the paper has done 150% better than last year, but in some of the reporting, as it does not give the essence of the true meetings. He wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. SENATE PRESIDENT POLOVINA updated the Senate on the Business Manager Search, stating that the committee has met and has nar-rowed the search to a few candidates, with interviews to be held in the near future. She thanked the Senate for the approval of the money for the comedy concert, and stated that she hopes it SENATE MEETING 21-03 7 IX. OPEN DISCUSSION, CONTINUED goes well, complementing the comedians who are coming to UNLV. She congratulated all the new Senators, and stated that if there are any questions that need to be answered, that they can feel free to contact her or Sen. Pres. Pro Tempore Benneman. She stated that she doesn't feel the need to speak on the Yellin1 Rebel situation as it has been beaten to death. She informed the Senate that the next meeting is in BEH 542 two weeks from today. WARREN WHITE stated that concerning the articles about Student Government, CSUN has never been a bigger topic than at this time for the students. He wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. X.
