File 60-A (sent by private conveyance) Los Vegas Mar 31st 1903 Mr. J. Ross Clark The Stewarts leave here today but Harry or Hi [Hiram] Stewart asked me what I would sell him a bunch of cattle for[.] I answered that I would have to write for instructions but told him I was not in favor of selling cattle to remain on this range[.] He said he was going to buy some from us or someone else to keep them close by here some place[.] I don't like this but I don't see how he can be prevented I thought it best to let you know this before the Stewarts call on you in Los Angeles The range is over fed now and I know there is a good many cattle not branded and Hi being handy with an iron might increase his band in a short time[.] However whisky may step in and be our friend in this matter and unfit him for the task[.] Yours truly Wm McDermott
