Bennett, General Solicitor Union Pacific Railroad Company 422 West Sixth"Street Los Angeles 14, California May 23, 1950 Dear Mr. Bennett: Replying to your letter of May 15, 1950 (174-2) relating to the water rates of Lincoln County Power Dis_ trict No. 1 at Pioche, the Water Department has informed me that they do not have special contracts with any of their customers in Pioche. The schedule of rates furnished to Mr. Cunningham are metered rates 500 with a minimum charge of per thousand gallons up to the first six thousand gallons, or $3*00. After the minimum has been reached, however, the charge per thousand gallons is exactly the same, that is, 500 per one thousand gallons. the schedule are for certain conditions where the customer has a small house with an inside tap or an outside tap, no inside sink, toilet or bathtub, in which it is well known that the consumption of water will never be sufficient to meet the minimum of $3*00. The only other classification where'a definite minii mum is provided is for Tourist Courts, Hotels, Spda Fountains, Saloons and other places where there is a large consumption of water, and where the equivalent of several resident units might be involved. For these, the minimum is rated upon the number and kind of units and usually runs up as high as $7.50. Company through one meter at the regular metered rate of 500 per thousand gallons, is the most satisfactory way for all concerned, especially in view of the fact that water is fur­nished to the stock yards. The Power District does not wish to apply the stock-water rate of 500 per head where it can be avoided,'because of the amount of bookkeeping and inspection required.
