Campbell, President Las Vegas Valley Water District 135 South Fourth Street Las Vegas, Nevada Dear Tom: The purpose of this letter is to bring you up to date on developments concerning the Union Pacific contract. This afternoon I received a call from Mr. Renwick, of Union Pacific, inquiring when we would be ready to go forward with the contract. Apparently Renwick's call to me was prompted by a telephone call which he had received from A1 Cahlan. Cahlan inquired of Renwick what the status of the contract was and Renwick advised him that they were waiting to hear from the Water District. Cahlan then remarked to Renwick that he would issue a "blast" against the District in his paper for the District’s delay in the matter. At this point, I got somewhat hot under the collar and advised Renwick that Union Pacific was not wholly blameless in the matter having delayed any action on the District’s offer from August 1952 to January 1953. At this Renwick backed off considerably concerning his remarks about the District's delay. With respect to negotiations with Union Pacific, I advised Renwick that I had carefully gone into the contract and had prepared my comments and recommendations thereon. I also told him that I had forwarded my comments and recommendations to the District for their approval and that upon receiving such approval I would be in a position to immediately undertake negotiations with him. I I inquired concerning the easements for the distribution system of the Las Vegas Valley Land and Water Company. He advised me that Union Pacific is currently making a study of the easement situation. However, he had no idea as to the extent of the examination and indicated to me that he doubted
