Hr. Barpt ffZ June IS , 19^9 Lake Mead to the BHX plant, or about half-way to L&s Veg&a, constructed during the War, cost In excess of five alllion dollar#, fhe directors of the Water Bistriot are agreed that the scheme will not be practicable frost & financial standpoint unless they ean acquire, either by negotiation or con&ecin&tion, the water distribution system of the Las Veg&s land and Water Co. Their present plan Is to obtain about ten Willi®# gallons per day from Lake Head which, added to our present artesian supply, will, they feel, take care of the requirement# in the District for the next few years. While our ©osrpany has thus far maintained an attitude of neutrality, considerable opposition to the plan has developed on the part of some of our local citizens because of the vagueness of the costs, the quality of the water from the lake, and a reluctance to permit water produced within the city limits to be used outside the city limits to supply gambling resorts on "The Strip* south of the city limits. So far as the time element la concerned, the President of the Water district advised me at the meeting above referred to, that even at the best they would not be in & position to eocoapltah anything concrete for about two years, although X assume they will wish to open negotiations with us after the feasibility survey Is completed and If and. when the bond issue Is approved, A.
