A Not. 27, 1951 File: 4747-11-64 Mr. Clyde E. Houston Irrigation Engineer U.S. Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation Service Division of Irrigation Agricultural Experiment Station Reno, Nevada. Dear Mr. Houston: Referring to my letter of August 30th, your reply of September 4th and my letter of September 6th, in connection with Snow Surveys in and around the mountains which feed the Las Vegas Valley Water Basin. The Las Vegas Land and Water Company, some time ago, filed an application with the Nevada Public Service Commission requesting authority to amend one of its rules in order to make some attempt to conserve the use of water in the City of Las Vegas and recently the Commission issued its order based on that application, copy of which Order I enclose, and by which order you will note the Company is not required to make further water main connections after the cut-off date of December 1, 1951 except under the conditions prescribed in the order* You will also note that hearing has been set down in this matter for January 22, 1952 in the City Hall in the City of Las Vegas. One of the grounds for requesting the Commission to issue its order ex parte was the overdraft of discharge from the Lae Vegas Valley Water Basin as compared to the reoharge and also the snow fall situation in and around the Mt. Charleston area and for your information, I enclose copy of letter I wrote Mr. Allen, Chairman of the Commission, briefly touching upon those two subjects. The information with respect to the snow fall was secured from the reports which you sent me with your letter of September 4th and I hope I correctly interpreted them.
