Cory -0O0- Las Vegas, Nevada March 25, 1959 (CALL OF SPECIAL MEETING) A special meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the City of Las Vegas, Nevada, held this 25th day of March, 1959; was called to order at the hour of 3:30 P.M. by Mayor Baker with the following members present: Mayor C. D. Baker Commissioner Wendell Bunker Commissioner E. W. Fountain Commissioner Harris P. Sharp Commissioner Reed Whipple City Manager A. H. Kennedy City Attorney Calvin M. Cory Acting City Clerk Robert F. Boos CECIL LYNCH'S FORTUNE CLUB - 22 FREMONT - GAMING LICENSE City Manager Kennedy advised the Board that Cecil Lynch had failed to pay his gaming license for the Fortune Club which was due on or before March 1, 1959. He stated that Mr. Lynch has been contacted several times and further that on two occasions checks that have been tendered as payment have been returned from the bank. The City Attorney was instructed to write a letter immediately advising Mr. Lynch that if his gaming license is not paid on or before noon on Friday, March 27, 1959, that all licensed gambling operations shall cease by reason of his not having a gaming license. RESIGNATION - COMMISSIONER WENDELL BUNKER - ACCEPTED Commissioner Wendell Bunker submitted a letter of resignation as Commissioner Second Class, as follows: THE HONORABLE C. D. BAKER, Mayor, and Commissioners E. W. Fountain, Harris Sharp, and Reed Whipple City of Las Vegas, Nevada Gentlemen: I hereby tender my resignation as a City Commissioner, Second Class, to be effective on this date. DATED this 25th day of March, 1959. /s/ Wendell Bunker__________ WENDELL BUNKER COMMISSIONER Second Class City of Las Vegas Commissioner Bunker stated that he wished to tender his resignation as Commissioner Second Class and that it had been a pleasure to serve with the Commission, the City Manager and Department Heads and all the fine, loyal City employees; also that he had appreciated the opportunity of working with the public in his ten years as City Commissioner. He said that he had been a tremendous amount of fine development in the City of Las Vegas, and the Voters willing, he would be happy to return. Commissioner Fountain moved that the resignation of Wendell Bunker, Commissioner Second Class, be accepted, effective this date, March 25, 1959- Motion seconded by Commissioner Sharp and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Commissioner Bunker passed his vote. MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS 1959 AMENDED PROCLAMATION City Attorney Calvin Cory advised the Board that he was reasonably certain that within the next day or two Governor Sawyer would sign the bill which would require the office vacated by Commissioner Bunker be filled at the coming election; therefore, he suggested that the Mayor be authorized to issue an Amended Election Proclamation as soon as the City is notified that the Governor has signed the bill. Said proclamation to be redrawn to include the office of Commissioner Second Class vacated by Commissioner Bunker as an office to be filled in the coming Primary and General Election for the unexpired term of Commissioner Bunker. Commissioner Sharp moved that the Mayor be authorized to issue an amended proclamation of election to include the office of Commissioner Second Class as an office to be filled in the forthcoming election for the unexpired term of Commissioner Wendell Bunker upon notification to the City that the Governor has signed legislation that would require the office to be filled in the coming election.
