This suit was designed in a white, navy and yellow plaidlike wool. A long, fringed gown of wrapped coral pink crepe was shown by Pierre Bal- main as his new collection went onj display in Paris. The only question left is: Will women around the world accept them? Audience reaction was described as tepid when Marc Bohan of Dior showed a lean, slim and elongated look for spring and summer. Hemlines were uniformly at calf length. But both fashion writers and customers were enthusiastic about Coco Chanel's new collection. But Andre Cour- reges, realistic and contempo rary, put hemlines just above or below the knee. Dior hemlines moved above and below the calf according to the hour and style. Sometimes they dropped to ankle length, with the A-line flaring toward the hem. It was a show of well behaved complete femininity, deluxe without ostentation. Many of his models had an oriental flavor. Chiffon, Georgette Long chiffon stoles often wrapped the entire head and face or streamed down the back. Fabrics were crepe de chine, crepe georgette and chiffon. Sharing honors with the oriental overtones were a series of pleated shirtwaist dresses beloved by women of the Western world. Their pleated skirts and all tailor details were softly express* in crepes. Chanel's spring-sumir collection, featuring a nej streamlined version of the mous suit, was one of tj best she has done in years* drew enthusiastic respoif from both fashion write and private customers. It may have looked up date because quietly, wh most high fashion write and the public looked the oj er way, Chanel had bei "doing her own thing." Season after season s 1 honed the line closer at closer to the body, expe mented with color and tj ture, invented new ways| stitch a seam. Then, for this vi-nt-aj collection, she went rig!
