Mr. 3?.H. Knickerbocker, General Manager, U.P. System, LA&SL RR Co., L ob Angeles, Cal. Lear S ir: Referring to your letters of August 3rd and August 23rd, f i l e 9215-355, above subject: I have carefu lly read Mr. Adamson’ s le tte r to you under date of July 29th and have made a study with advice from others concerning his recommendations. Mr. Adamson’ s le tte r is a very accurate statement of the exact conditions and I concur with everything therein, especially with the construction of the 2,500,000 gallon reservoir at a point where he has designated the location, which w ill enable us to secure by gravity flow the waters from what is known as the "Middle Spring" and other small springs, for, undoubtedly, anticipating the demand fo r domestic use next year, should our new tou rist hotel be constructed and the Boulder Canyon Lam B i l l pass, we w ill want a l l of the water in the various springs conserved in the reservoir fo r an immediate ample supply, and it w ill only be a short time un til we w ill want to extend our water system to the various sub-divisions, as they are building up very fast, and as our water system fo r Clark’ s Las Vegas Townsite has been one productive of a very handsome revenue the same thing can be made by supplying abutting additions as they are b u ilt up s u ffic ie n tly to warrant the expenditure of a pipe lin e through them. The new 12" cast iron pipe lin e from the L itt le Springs to the settlin g basin is almost completed and 5je^anticipate the water w ill be turned through this pipe lin e within 10 days, which w ill greatly increase our present head and w ill be ample supply fo r a l l uses, including the cutting in of Old Town (or West Side), which w ill possibly be done within 60 days. I believe the volume can be increased and Lr.Boyle concurs With me i f the large artesian w ell, which has decreased very m aterially in flow, almost 50$ within the past year (Mr.Adamson’ s le tte r has given you the amount of decrease in gallon s) is examined and pumped fo r sand. A temporary derrick should be erected at the w ell, a portable compressor of su fficien t capacity taken there, and the well blown to relieve sand pressure. There seems to be just one of two things which has reduced this pressure in the w ell and that is either the buckling of the casing or a sanding up of the w ellj the la tte r, I co,
