Las Vegas, Nevada Morning Tribune March 8, 1945. iAS VEGAS MORNING TRIBU^ Mesouiteif. Opening Before | Plan Board ! Consideration o£ opening Mes- \ quite st. from Second st. through. | to North Main st. was referred to £Tie city planning commission ? yesterday, following a request for such cut-through by Ted Werner | and A. L. Arnold, both North Main st. businessmen. In asking for the street they pointed out present industrial developments on Main st., and ! mentioned proposed business [ Structures there. Both offered fi- I nancial assistance in the street opening if necessary. ' They pointed out greater advantages to the immediate neighborhood, chief of which would be 1 a general cleanup of the creek j area. It would represent addition- I al access to the downtown dis- ] trict'by branch roads, and would | be an outlet of importance when I the fire station is opened at Second and Fremont, sts. Werner and Arnold also asked that some action be taken to j improve what they described as j the “open sewer” in_ their back yards, indicating the creek on Union Pacific property which runs diagonally from 400 North Main st. to the Old Ranch. Weeds j have .been allowed to grow up in it, considerable waste has accumulated on and in it, and ‘ the condition is now a health hazard to the citizens, they said. City officials will ask the planning board to see what action can he taken with the railroad to clear the creek and adjoining property.
