F O R M 2191 -B UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD COMPANY TELEGRAM C . S . 5 0 Z J R LOS ANGELES 136PM AUG 18 1 9 3 9 W R B LAS VEGAS ORIG WMJ OMA CY WRB; WALTER BRACKEN ADVISES THAT SPRING LOCATED NEAR FIFTH ST AND SERVING LAS VEGAS RANCH WITH WATER FOR DOMESTIC PURPOSES WORK ANIMALS AND DAIRY STOCK HAS DRIED TO EXTENT THERE IS BARELY ENOUGH WATER FOR DOMESTIC PURPOSES. LESSEE WAS OBLIGED TO MAKE A TEMPORARY EMERGENCY ARRANGEMENT TO SECURE WATER FOR HIS STOCK FROM A FLOWING WELL IN NEARBY CEMETERY. WE HAVE VERY GOOD TENANT ON PREMISES AND ARE RECEIVING 2 , 0 0 0 PER YEAR IN LEASE RENTAL. I AGREE WITH MR. BRACKEN'S RECOMMENDATION THAT IMMEDIATE STEPS SHOULD BE TAKEN TO SUPPLY WELL WATER ON THE RANCH. HE SUGGESTS DRILLING A SIX INCH WELL IN DAIRY YARD WHICH IS CLOSE TO CEMETERY AND WHERE THERE IS EVERY REASON TO EXPECT A GOOD A R T E S I A N FLOW. IT SEEMS PROBABLE THAT WATER STRATA WILL BE ENCOUNTERED AT BOTTOM 2 0 0 AND 3 0 0 FT DEPTHS. WE CAN CONTACT THE DRILLING AT 2 . 0 0 PER FOOT AND FURNISH SIX INCH WELL CASING INSTALLED AT APPROX 6 0 C PER FOOT OR MAXIMUM TOTAL COST OF 800 AND CAN SECURE WRITTEN COMMITTMENT FROM TENANT THAT IF WATER IS ENCOUNTERED THAT WILL NOT PRODUCE BY ARTESIAN FLOW, TENANT WILL AT HIS OWN EXPENSE INSTALL PUMP AND MOTOR. AS TENANT HAS ONLY A TEMPORARY ARRANGEMENT WITH CEMETERY, THIS SEEMS AN EMERGENCY MATTER AND I REQUEST WIRE AUTHORITY TO PROCEED WITH DRILLING OF WELL. S-18 F S 220PM
