Reinhardt) Referring to jour request that I investigate the merits of the so-called "mechanical joint" or "gland type joint" as sold by Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe Co. (See their catalog page 70 « copy attached.) I understand that certain subdividers in Las Vegas desire to use this type of joint in lines to be constructed by them under Rule 9* The following data is submitted with our comments as indicated: (1) Pacific Stated Cast Iron Pipe Co. (d) City of Los Angeles uses this joint at RR crossing account of flexibility, etc. (e) About 15% of all pipe sold to contractors by Pacific States Co. has the mechanical joint. (f) Cities of long Beach, Oceanside, Ontario, Burbank and Glendale all buy this joint. (2) City of Los Angeles - Dept, of Water and Power. Talked to Mr. Gerald P. Cooper, Hydraulic Engineer. All requisitions for pipe pass through Mr. Cooper. (Phone MI-Ij.211 - Sta. 542.) (a) Mechanical joint pipe used tinder R.R.crossings where load is heavy and vibration excessive. Also at other points where similar conditions prevail.
