waiting water to conserve fo r benefit o f the City. The attached copy o f Mr. Bracken*a le tt e r to the Mayor and city Commissioners o f Las Vegas is self-explanatory. However, heretofore the City has refused to pass helpful ordinances and no doubt the present suggestion w ill be tabled. v,hile the consumption o f water at Las Vegas, which fo r some months la as high as 540 gallons per day per capita, is unreasonable, nevertheless we are faced with the situation o f decreased production and increased use. The old 16“ wood stave pipe lin e is rapidly deteriorating, and while leaks are constantly being plugged, a considerable amount o f water is lo s t , probably in excess o f ICO $•?•!£« In order that adequate amounts of water may be supplied to the City by the LVL&W Co., i t is recommended, that 1£* w ell be d r ille d and connected to settlin g basin, at an estimated cost o f $10,370, chargeable to Capital A c c o u n t; also that existing 16* wood stave pipe lin e 8,400 feet long be replaced with 24.* cast iron pipe lin e , at an estimated cost of $68,040, o f which $26,440 would be chargeable Capital Account and $31,600 Operating Expense, The total project would be approximately $36,810 Capital Account and $31,600 OEJ however, i f desirable to reduce total expenditure, the renewal of pipe lin e could be programmed by replacing 3,000 feet, at a cost of $18,665, at the reservoir end, which is buried and in very bad condition, leaving 6,400 feet to be maintained and renewed as soon as possible. co-Mr.H.C.Mann hr.'- .li.
