Members of the Highway Patrol, Sheriff's Department and Las Vegas City Police were on hand when amateur golfs most coveted prize left its permanent home at the Desert Inn for the first time in six years. The City of Cheyenne officially became the proud possessor of the International Gold Cup for one year. Valued at $50,000, the trophy was won by a team of golfers from the Cheyenne Country Club in June. It arrived by plane under heavy security and was accompanied by Jack Walsh of the Desert Inn, co-chairman of the Gold Cup competition, Don Welch, Desert Inn professional and Kathy Landry, Miss International Gold Cup. Miss Landry is the reigning Miss Nevada and recently finished as second runner-up in the Miss USA beauty pageant. The entire party of the Frontier Airlines flight was greeted at the airport by a host of local dignitaries headed by Cheyenne Mayor George Cox and Police Chief Dave Byrd, as well as members of the victorious Country Frontier Airlines cargo door is about to be sealed for the first leg of the Gold Cup journey from Las Vegas to Cheyenne. yzmfm- :Mmmffi:. Following picture taking and interviews the entire group was taken by stagecoach and escorted by Cheyenne police to the American National Bank where the cup is now on display. Members of this year's team in addition to Georges include Mike Price, who is a division director, Jack Reed, George Braucht, A. B. Vanderwark, Gaylord Weber, Bill Cook, Leonard Larson, M. W. "Red" Davis and Kaye Hashimoto. Each team member received a small replica of the Gold Cup for their victory in the finals. The Cheyenne team is scheduled for division play next April and will be defending its championship.
