LEDERMAN Rabbi One might ask: Why be especially concerned about the 40th anniversary of the founding of our congregation? Are there not more significant numbers? Eighteen, twenty- five, thirty-six and eventually ifty and a hundred? Why forty? In the entire bible, there is one number that stands out more than all others. 40. The days of the great flood were forty. The years of wandering in the desert were forty. The days Moses stood on the summit of Mt. Sinai were forty. The years of enslavement and bondage in Egypt were forty. The years of the life of Moses himself were three times forty. One would have to conclude that forty and its multiples have, in some way, a meaning and significance that no other number has. And for that reason, to celebrate and to observe the 40th anniversary of the founding of Temple Beth Sholom does have a significance and meaning that no other milestone in the history of our congregation could ever have. Thus it is so very fitting to thank God who has so generously blessed our congregation and its families these past forty years. Indeed, now is the perfect and most appropriate time to pray that God will continue to bless our congregation during its second forty years and the forty years following... For 120 years! Amen.LOUIS M. LEDERMAN Rabbi SIMON BERGMAN Cantor ISABEL .1. GOLDBERG Executive Director LEO A. WILNER Executive Director Emeritus G^ficeu Z9877988 GENE GREENBERG President HERB PASTOR EDWARD M.
